Though Christopher started his day as he did all others, somehow he know the day ahead would be anything but ordinary. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t fight the growing sense of danger. His wife, Jessie, pled with him not to leave, harboring a shared sense of urgency. But he had a family to support and could not neglect that obligation. They gave their usual goodbyes. Christopher embraced each of their two young children before holding jessie, who tearfully whispered, “Please, be safe,” as he left her side and walked to their worn down sedan. Pulling out of the driveway, he looked back at their simple home with Jessie and the two little girls framed in the front window: the children waving enthusiastically while Jessie’s face showed only concern. He tried to convince himself that they were simply getting paranoid: that his job in the jail was beginning to jade their thinking the longer he worked there.
